Shu Qi is worth watching if your a fan of her
Kicked off the New Year by watching this remake of one of my favorite films, and, man, is information technology a dog. The lead here is a whiny boozer who is a hell of a lot less interesting. Much of the film plays like glamor porn, showing off European locales and designer brands-- I'thou not sure Mao would approve.

Much amend than the 2019 remake, but unfortunately they replaced Rupert Everett'southward character with a straight dude she meets on the plane (who then pretends to be gay for a hot 2nd, afterward pretending to be her fiance, for... reasons?) (Bad reasons.)

This is first of all Boring but also disappointingly eliminates one of the best things about the original, which is the relationship between George and Julianne. All the conversations they take, well-nigh love and truth and what Jules should do, get their emotional depth and heft from the connection betwixt George and Jules (and Rupert and Julia, but that'due south an unfair standard). Super expensive Chinese romcom with a super crappy script. They must have paid millions to get the location and cast that they did. It's besides bad the script is super cheesy, and the interim doesn't experience at all genuine to the actual story.

Also, the ending does not make sense. If Rhydian Vaughan'south character is actually gay - his petty scene of him acting "gay" was incredibly offensive, by the way - then why the catastrophe? How is he "still in that location" for Shu Qi, when he'southward obviously gay?! Doesn't brand whatever sense.

Oh, and also x ii, Victoria Song'southward grapheme is fucking annoying. Chinese romcoms need to terminate writing these stupid ditzy girls into movies. They're terrible function models.
